Labels for towns and villages in bloom
WHAT IS THE "TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN BLOOM" LABEL?

The "Villes et villages fleuris" (Flowering Towns and Villages) competition is designed to promote and encourage action to develop green spaces and improve the living environment. It consists of awarding a series of flowers (from one to four) corresponding to the "Villes et villages fleuris" label or brand. The competition is organized and promoted by the Conseil national des Villes et Villages fleuris.
The label is based on three core values:
- quality of welcome,
- respect for the environment
- creating or maintaining social ties.
To achieve this, the town of Saint-Avold, which currently holds three flowers, is constantly improving the beautification and flowering of the town, as well as the living space of its inhabitants.
ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN BY THE TOWN OF SAINT-AVOLD
Every year, " Les Jardins d'Henriette ", a local concept in the form of a fair, brings together a large number of exhibitors and events in front of the Town Hall, on the themes of gardening, the environment, biodiversity and nature in general.
For Easter and the end-of-year festivities, a variety of decorations are put up (flowers, illuminations).
Local residents can also contribute to the city's flowering and beautification by taking part in competitions such as the Flowering Homes and Balconies competition. Winners are rewarded with gift vouchers. During the awards evening, interactive educational workshops are available to all participants. This is an opportunity to exchange ideas with professionals and discover new flowering techniques.
Every year, the towns of Saint-Avold and Macheren organize a competition for allotments (around 150 vegetable and flower gardens). Similar to the Maisons Fleuries competition, the winners are rewarded with numerous prizes in the form of vouchers.
The town works with Nabor's various social landlords and the Ministry of Education to regularly plant trees of various species. This is an opportunity to get youngsters involved in the greening of neighborhoods , as is the creation of educational gardens that teach children about the richness of plants (herbs, legumes, flowers). To the same end, community gardens have been set up in the "Le Faubourg" district by the tenants' association and the city: "Les incroyables comestibles".
Regularly confronted with incivilities such as dog faeces, cigarette butts and chewing gum, awareness-raising campaigns have been carried out to promote eco-citizenship, with posters, flyers and bag dispensers.
