PACS

WHAT IS THE PACS?

A civil solidarity pact (Pacs) is a contract between two people of the same or different sexes.

Following the adoption of the 21st century justice modernization law, the management of solidarity pacts has been transferred to communes since November 2017. The commune's civil status department is responsible for registering, modifying and dissolving PACS.

Worth knowing:

  • have legal capacity (an adult under guardianship may enter into a civil partnership under certain conditions),
  • not already be married or in a civil partnership,
  • have no direct family ties with the other partner.
