Classified facilities
WHAT IS A CLASSIFIED FACILITY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION?
A classified facility is any depot, worksite or, more generally, any installation operated or owned by a natural or legal person, public or private (factories, livestock farms, warehouses, quarries, etc.) which may present a hazard or inconvenience for :
- Neighborhood convenience,
- Public health, safety and hygiene,
- Agriculture,
- Protecting nature and the environment,
- Conservation of sites and monuments.
In other words, any industrial or agricultural operation likely to create risks, pollution or nuisances, particularly for the health and safety of local residents, is a classified facility.
Classified installations are subject to specific regulations under the articles of Title1 ofBook 5 of the French Environment Code (legislative and regulatory parts). The activities concerned are defined by a nomenclature that classifies them under the declaration or authorization regime, depending on the seriousness of the hazards or inconveniences they may present.
