Neighborhood committees: a new approach to civic engagement
Between 2022 and 2025, more than a hundred volunteers stepped up to serve their city through neighborhood committees. Thanks to their dedication, numerous discussions, proposals, and initiatives emerged focused on quality of life, the local environment, and fostering a sense of community.
What is a neighborhood committee?
The neighborhood committee is a forum for dialogue, listening, and civic engagement. It brings together residents and local stakeholders who wish to work alongside the municipality to improve life in their neighborhood and, more broadly, to serve the public interest.
Committees make it possible to:
- to convey the concerns and needs from the field;
- to share ideas and suggestions;
- to contribute to discussions about local projects;
- to strengthen the bond between residents, elected officials, and municipal services;
- to promote harmonious coexistence and a sense of community in neighborhoods.
The discussions focus on practical, everyday issues: roads, traffic, parking, cleanliness, safety, the living environment, neighborhood relations, public spaces, neighborhood events, and community initiatives.
Neighborhood committee members thus serve as local points of contact. They help identify residents’ needs more effectively and develop community-based solutions tailored to local conditions.
No special skills are required to participate: each resident contributes their experience, perspective, and ideas in a spirit of openness, respect, and dialogue.
A new round of consultations in 2026…
The municipal team wishes to continue this participatory approach by adapting the way neighborhood committees operate in order to better meet residents’ expectations and address current challenges.
With this in mind, elected officials will soon be meeting with former committee members in each of the city’s neighborhoods. This consultation phase will run through the end of June 2026 to allow for in-depth and constructive dialogue.
These meetings will make it possible to:
- to review the work of previous committees;
- to identify the strengths of this civic initiative;
- to gather feedback, suggestions, and ideas for improvement;
- to reflect on new forms of civic engagement.
The municipality fully recognizes the importance of residents’ expertise. Residents know their neighborhoods, their needs, their strengths, and the day-to-day challenges they face. Their experience and involvement are essential assets for sustainably improving the quality of life in these neighborhoods.
…toward a new structure for neighborhood committees
Following this consultation phase, a joint working group comprising elected officials, city employees, residents, and local stakeholders will review the organization and operations of the neighborhood committees.
This collaborative effort will, in particular, make it possible to:
- to redefine the terms of participation;
- to adapt the committees’ mandates to current expectations;
- to consider tools for dialogue and consultation;
- to draft a new charter for neighborhood committees.
Residents will be informed about the launch of this new initiative, scheduled for the second half of 2026, and about how to join or participate in future neighborhood committees.
The commitment of volunteer citizens is a valuable asset in bringing our neighborhoods to life and building the future of our city together.

The neighborhood committee listens to you, informs you and relays your ideas to the municipality.
As a link between the municipality and local residents, the committee informs the municipality of residents' concerns, suggestions and comments. It also informs residents of municipal projects. The committee makes proposals for actions and events in the neighborhoods, and has a participatory budget dedicated to urban development. The committee can be consulted by the municipality on certain projects. However, it has no decision-making power, as the municipal council alone is competent to decide on projects for the commune.
The neighborhood committee's term ended in 2025; it is currently inactive.
